We hire drivers from the highlighted areas of the "Hiring Area"
map below. Occasionally, special needs arise with a
customer that allows us to hire a short distance outside the
designated areas.

Our System Drivers' Areas of Operation
Our
map below shows the areas and frequency rate that our drivers
operate within these areas. The system driver often finds that
our customers' changing needs will still cause a temporary shift
in a particular traffic lane. However these drivers consistently
will find that they are home weekends. They are called upon approximately
2 or 3 times a year to spend a weekend out, running a long run
that usually keeps them busy for both days of the weekend. These
drivers usually produce our highest revenues and therefore operate
the new trucks.
We have four
types of drivers: regional, system, local and dedicated.
Basic Information
Grayson Mitchell, Inc. offers a pay scale in the flatbed industry that is absolutely second to none! Our benefits package includes hospitalization and life insurance, 401 (k) retirement program, paid vacations, paid holidays, monthly performance bonuses, annual safety bonuses, and much more.
Drivers are paid on a per mile basis.
See the table below for the current pay
rates. All mileages are calculated
using the most recent edition of the Rand
McNally mileage guide. With our
monthly bonus programs, you could receive up
to an additional five cents
per mile. Our drivers usually average between 2,000 and 2,800
miles or more per week, and we are dedicated to getting drivers
home on weekends.
Owner-operators receive 79% with their own trailer or 70% when
leasing a spread axle trailer from the company. An escrow account
will be established to cover sign-on costs. We furnish cargo and
liability insurance, fuel permits, and pay IFTA fuel taxes in the various
states. We can also assist with purchasing base plates (Virginia
only). Grayson Mitchell, Inc. also offers drastically reduced
labor rates in the shop, should the
owner-operator need repairs.
If you are looking for steady employment with a well-established company, look no further! Grayson Mitchell, Inc. is a "driver friendly" company that offers you and your family the job security and pay you
need and deserve.

Training
Every
driver, regardless of experience level, is required to attend
one week of classroom orientation held in Emporia, Virginia.
The orientation includes, but is not limited to, pre-employment
drug testing, completion of D.O.T. and company-required paperwork,
company handbook issue, an over-view of company policies, load
securement, map reading, logs, ordering uniforms, explanation
of benefits and bonuses in detail, and assignment of trainer, if
needed. In many cases this orientation can be done in four
days with the fifth day being used to get started on the first
load.
It will be determined during orientation if a new driver
requires further training. Trainers are over-the-road
drivers and, therefore, may be out on the weekend.
Experienced
drivers may be local, regional, dedicated to one customer,
system or over-the-road drivers.
